The Himmel Lab combines experimental and computational approaches to study the senses (pain, touch, taste, etc.), from genes to behavior. We seek to understand how sensory systems function, how they evolve(d), and when their molecular toolkits originated (perhaps as far back as the Last Universal Common Ancestor).
The Himmel Lab will open Fall 2026 at The Federated Department of Biological Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (federated with a sister department at Rutgers-Newark).
